IMGP2735.JPG

Repousse is patterning in metalwork surfaces created by fine hammering from the reverse side. Mirror made with this technique are not uncommon, but an Arts and Crafts one this large size is very rare. It dates from around the 1870s and is most likely from Normandy.

The bevelled glass is new.

The pattern includes martens and swifts, auspicious birds in folklore, as they herald the new spring season.
